8-12 Grade Summer School 2025
Program Description
Program Description
The summer school program serves students from incoming Freshmen to outgoing seniors in three different ways.
Credit Recovery and Grade Improvement
Summer School credit recovery serves students going into grades 10-12 who need to recover credits that they were unable to obtain during the regular school year because of a failing grade and is an opportunity for students to improve any grade for which they had received a “D” grade. Students in the credit recovery summer program who receive above a “D” grade are not eligible for the Summer School credit recovery. The summer credit recovery and grade improvement program for our students is completely voluntary.
Senior Makeup
Students who completed their Senior year but did not obtain the needed credits to graduate can attend summer school to make up credits so that they can graduate. Students who attend and complete their credits will obtain their high school diploma at the end of the summer school session. Outgoing seniors do not have the option of using the summer session to improve any D grades on their transcript. This program is completely voluntary.
Summer Advancement
Students in incoming grade 9 can participate in the Math 1 Summer Skipper program that allows students to take the full year of Math 1 over the summer for advancement purposes. The purpose of this course is for students who did not have the opportunity to participate in the middle school accelerated math pathway. Students who complete this course with a C or higher are eligible to enroll in Math 2 during their 9th grade year. Another opportunity for summer advancement is AP Boot camp. During AP Boot Camp, students are invited to participate in a workshop format program that will help students prepare for the rigor of AP courses they are signed up for in the coming year. Priority for the boot camp is given to students who are invited first, and if space is available, others may attend. Finally, a 9th grade summer bridge for English and Math is available to specifically identified students. These students are identified and invited to participate to strengthen their content knowledge and abilities in Math and English. Students will also participate in study skills workshops, and field trips that will build community, and orient them to the high school experience at MHHS.
Calendar and Hours of Operation
Daily Class Schedule
The Summer School Program session runs for six (6) weeks during the summertime. The Summer School Credit Recovery Program, the Accelerated Program, and the Senior Makeup Program facilitates a classroom environment with teachers available for assistance and guidance 4 days each week during the summer program. Each student will be assigned a Homeroom teacher who will keep track of their progress and communicate with parents. The students will also have access to subject-specific teachers for the remainder of the school day for subject-specific tutoring. All students will be required to attend school for the morning session where their homeroom teacher tracks progress and makes sure students are making satisfactory progress and grades. Students who have fallen behind pace or who are failing their summer courses will be required to stay for the afternoon block to complete any and all assignments and to meet with subject specific teachers and/or tutors to stay on track and improve their grades. All assessments must be proctored on campus by a homeroom, or subject-specific teacher.
Students in the Summer Bridge program will be involved in face-to-face instruction with their teachers. They will be required to attend Tuesday through Friday during all six (6) weeks of Summer School.
The Schedule for AP Boot Camp will be significantly different and will require less time than the full 6 weeks of summer. Schedules for the boot camp will be communicated with parents and students when they are invited to participate.
