Leaves
From time to time, situations occur that require a leave of absence from work. These include medical leaves, military leave, family care/kin care, and welcoming a new child into your household. LUSD has a variety of leave provisions in accordance with State and Federal laws. Please review the below information and requirements on requesting a leave of absence.
Pregnancy, Parental, and Baby-Bonding Leaves
LUSD wishes to offer you our sincerest congratulations on the new addition to your family! To support you during this endeavor, this section is provided to confirm the steps required to facilitate your leave of absence relating to the birth of your child or the adoption or foster of a child. We advise all expectant parents (mothers, father, biological, or adoptive) to schedule a meeting with Human Resources to get a clear understanding of your leave options and to adequately prepare for your absence.
The Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and the California Family Rights Act (CFRA) provide eligible employees with up to 12 workweeks of protected, unpaid time off for the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child of the employee. FMLA and CFRA absences may run concurrently.

Military Leaves
Military families can find themselves facing great challenges. Caring for an injured servicemember, arranging for alternative childcare when a spouse is deployed to a foreign country, or attending arrival ceremonies when a loved one returns from a deployment may present family members with difficult decisions about time spent at work versus with family.
