Volunteer Information
Thank you for your interest in volunteering! Your time and energy are deeply appreciated, and we could not provide such a rich environment for our students without your dedication.
To ensure a safe environment for all children and to comply with state laws, please review the requirements and follow the steps below to become an approved volunteer.
Step 1: Identify Your Volunteer Type
LUSD categorizes volunteers into three types based on their level of interaction with students. Please determine which type of volunteering you plan to do:
- Volunteer A: You will help in a parent workroom, office, library, or classroom with district staff present. You will not work directly with students unsupervised.
- Volunteer B: You will be a field trip or event chaperone, or help on the playground, lunch area, or parking lot. You may be left alone with students or pull a student out to a separate area.
- Volunteer C: You will transport students in your personal or a district vehicle.
Step 2: Complete Mandated Reporter Training (Required for ALL Volunteers)
In compliance with newCalifornia state law, all volunteers (A, B, and C) must complete Mandated Reporter Training prior to volunteering.
- Create an Account: Click on the link below to access the Keenan SafeSchool website and register for an account: Keenan SafeSchools website
- Take the Course: Complete the online training titled "Mandated Reporter: Child Abuse and Neglect (California Full)." The course takes approximately one hour to complete.
- Save Your Certificate: Once finished, print or save your certificate of completion. You will need to upload/attach this to your Volunteer Application.
Step 3: Gather Required Documentation
Depending on your Volunteer Type, you will need to upload specific documents to your online application:
- Volunteer A: Form of Identification and Proof of a negative TB test or TB Risk Assessment taken within the past 60 days and Mandated Reporter Training certificate of completion.
- Volunteer B: All Volunteer A requirements. (Note: Volunteer B also requires fingerprint clearance. A DOJ Live Scan form will be emailed to you from the District once your application is complete. A DOJ fee is required).
- Volunteer C: All Volunteer B requirements, plus a completed Volunteer Driver Onboarding packet.
Step 4: Submit the Online Application
Once you have your documents and training certificate ready, please complete the LUSD Online Volunteer Application. During this process, you will also be required to review and agree to our Statement of Confidentiality, acknowledging that all student information must be kept personal and confidential, and that volunteers must never physically discipline students.
After you submit your online form, it will automatically be routed to your selected school site(s) for review and approval by the teacher and principal.
If you have any questions or run into technical issues setting up your Keenan training account, please reach out your school site.
Thank you for your partnership in keeping our students safe!
