Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Frequently Asked Questions
- Are the breakfast, lunch, and snacks included or do we need to provide them? Yes, meals and snacks are provided. If your child prefers food from home, you are welcome to send meals with them, however, we cannot accommodate mid-day food drop-offs. It would be helpful to also provide a refillable water bottle for use throughout the day.
- Is there a published curriculum I can refer to? ELOP stands for Expanded Learning Opportunities. ELOP is not an intervention or acceleration program. The summer program is intended to provide a safe environment for students to come and participate in low-low stress, fun learning activities. We will be focusing on expanding and enhancing student knowledge through engaging STEM activities, structured play, social/emotional learning, computer coding, makerspace activities, arts and crafts, performing arts, and much more..
- Is daily attendance mandatory? What if my child(ren) participates in other activities during the summer on a regular basis? During the school year, the intent is for students to participate in the entirety of the program starting directly after the school day and lasting until pickup time between 4:50 P.M. and 5:05 P.M. The purpose of ELOP is to provide a program where students fully participate in the program on all dates for the duration of the entire day. During the summer program it is expected that sudents participate in the full day of activities from 7:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Students who regularly miss days, arrive late, or leave early will be subject to dismissal from the program to make space for those who want to take advantage of the program.
- During extreme heat, will the kids be allowed to stay inside the classroom? Staff will monitor the heat and follow LUSD district protocols relating to hot weather.
- Should my student be potty trained before attending ELOP? We strongly encourage you to potty train your child before you send them to ELOP as aides cannot assist students with restroom needs. For more information about potty training, please visit our district website resources HERE.
- When will I know my child’s teacher and room number? Classroom assignments will be provided to you before the first day of ELOP.
